Model 1862 Peabody military rifle, 56-50 rimfire cal., Canadian Militia marked. Single shot falling block action with exposed hammer. 36″ barrel with all barrel bands in place, and complete with correct issue cleaning rod, which is usually missing. Straight grip with crescent steel butt plate. Left side of action is marked “Peabody’s Pat. July 22nd, 1862″. Correct sights in place with the barrel showing an original and even age finish, with 95% of the original bluing remaining. Action and lock plate retains 80% of the original case color hardening showing being bright and even. Wood is solid, showing it’s original color and finish, with the usual handling and storage marks being present to a military rifle of this age. Sling swivel below the action shows some damage. Inspectors cartouche to the left side of the stock behind the action, being sharp and legible. “CM’ (Canadian Militia mark) present to the right side of the stock just above the butt plate, also being sharp, crisp, and very legible. Bore is in excellent condition, being sharp and crisp with a mirror finish. In very good condition overall.
