Model 1873 Trapdoor Springfield rifle, 45-70 cal. single shot rifle. Manufactured in the first quarter of 1876, one of the 3838 infantry rifles manufactured that quarter. U.S. marked to the top of the butt plate, with the block being marked “Model 1873″, with the lock plate showing the U.S. Eagle, and marked “U.S. Springfield 1873.” Double stacking swivel to the front, with single to the trigger guard as produced. Stock is regimentally marked “18 S.G.” to the left side. Stock is in very good condition showing all of it’s original color and finish, with some age and handling wear as to be expected. Light traces of case color hardening visible to the block and side plate, with grey and silvering being predominant. Barrel shows 85% finish remaining, being a blued finish turning grey.Original issue cleaning rod in place. Bore is bright and clean, with the action functioning correctly, and locking tightly with a crisp trigger and a strong spring. A very nice as issued example.
