English made Blake and Company military contract rifle, circa 1841. 26 1/2 barrel of approx. 58 cal. smoothbore, percussion lock. Brass butt plate, trigger guard, and ramrod fixtures. Steel ramrod in place. Single blade front sight, manufactured without a rear sight. Two English proof marks to the upper left side of the barrel. The one piece walnut stock is rich in color and retains almost all if its original finish and color showing only light handling marks, with some shrinkage to the wood at the butt plate. The barrel is an even and pleasing blue-ish grey in color, showing approx. 85% coverage.. The lock plate is strongly marked “Blake & Co., London” with light line engraving following the edges of the lock. The hammer and lock are also grey in color, with an even finish showing approx. 60%. Hammer spring is very strong with a crisp trigger, functioning correctly. Bore is very good condition for the age, being clean throughout. Brass fixtures have been cleaned at some point in history. In very good condition overall.
