Silver plated presentation tanker, 4 1/2 inches in height and 3 inches in diameter at the top with a clear plexiglass bottom. Engraved to the front, "To Adm. Gordon McLintock, In Grateful Appreciation, North Shore Hospital Ball. With print out of history of Admiral McLintock. SKU: 62358
Admiral Gordon McLintock who served as Superintendent of the United States Merchant Marine Academy from 1848 to 1970. He commanded the Academy in King's Point Long Island, which was established to train officers for the United States Merchant Marines. In 1927 at the age of 24, he became Master of a tanker of the Pan American Petroleum and Transport Company and was believed to be the youngest member of the Merchant Marine in command of an ocean going vessel. During WW2, he was the chief inspection officer for the War Shipping Administration with parallel duties for the United States Maritime Commission. In 1948 he became the fourth superintendent of the Merchant Marine Academy.
