Pre-WW1 U.S. Antique Second Model Maynard Civil War Carbine

 Antique Second Model Maynard Civil War Carbine in 50 cal. breechloading percussion paper cartridge. Manufactured between 1863 and 1865, with this being dated 1865 to the lower tang next to the serial number. 20 inch, part round, part octagon barrel. Iron mountings with a blued finish and casehardened frame. Walnut stock with a casehardened steel buttplate, Manufactured without a forend. Marked to the right side of the frame, "Manufactured By Mass. Arms Co., Chicopee Falls', with the left side of the frame stamped, "Edward Maynard, Patentee, May 27, 1851, Dec. 6, 1859" with an inspectors stamp to the left side of the stock at the wrist. This specimen is in exceptional condition with nearly 99% of the blued finish showing, and 80 to 85% casehardening showing with slight wear and some staining present. The walnut shows has a beautiful grain with an oil finish with some mild handling marks being present. Bore is excellent with sharp rifling. Mechanically excellent and functioning correctly.
