WW2 British Air Force RAF Pattern 41 Air Sea Rescue Mae West Life Vest

An original 1941 Pattern Mae West Life Preserver as used during the Second World War. Replacing the earlier 1932 pattern Mae West shortly after the Battle of Britain. This pattern also saw extensive use with the Fleet Air Arm, Air Sea Rescue, Costal Command and the USAAF. The nylon shell is an early pattern with contract number and broad arrow stamp - and is in great condition with some staining. No torch pocket or fluorescent pull flap signifying an early production model. Some wear present. 

Includes a set of 1941 dated Dominion Rubber Company kapok pads as well as a 1941 dated, yellow silk shelled bladder. The bladder is complete and still supple with no damage. It includes the original Air Ministry marked inflation lever which is commonly missing. Manual fill tube is pliable and displays well with very little cosmetic damage. 

Unfortunately the grab handles have been removed at some point. Leg straps, however, are present and in great condition.

Shows markings on both the front and obverse for the 22nd Air Sea Rescue Fleet. The fleet was based in Grimsby, Lincolnshire and performed high-speed rescues for downed pilots in the North Sea throughout the entirety of the war. SKU: 65972
