WW2 Canadian RCAF Royal Canadian Air Force Named Uniform Set
WW2 Canadian RCAF Royal Canadian Air Force Named Uniform Set belonging to Clifford Johnson Crapper, born July 8, 1922 who flew with the RCAF during WW2, starting as an Observer, and then becoming a Wireless Air Gunner. The set consists of the service dress tunic with embroidered on cloth CANADA shoulder titles and Flight Officer ribbons to the lower cuffs and an Observer metal wing to the front left breast pocket, with a raised and padded WW2 RCAF WAG (Wireless Air Gunner) brevet wing above with a 4 place ribbon bar. The 4 button, 4 pocket front tunic has all the buttons and waist belt in place and manufactures in place to the interior lining. The tunic is complete with pants that are unmarked and showing expected wear with all buttons in place. His 5 button, 2 pocket front battle dress tunic with manufacture's label in place to the interior, dated 1944 with a British Broadarrow. Insignia has been removed and kept by the family. The uniforms are with his Officer's visor cap with 2 piece brass insignia in place and 2 small brass King's Crown buttons to the front. Satin lined and without any markings to the interior. The Flight Officer's visor cap with raised and padded King's Crown and brass insignia is in place to the front, as is the black leather chinstrap with 2 small black side buttons in place. The cap is manufacture marked to the interior on the leather sweatband, and the cap shows shows significant wear, but is without any damage. There is also a pair of WW2 RCAF athletic shorts, Air Force blue in color, and stamped with the number R198034 to the exterior. The interior is manufacture stamped "Hampton Manf'g Co., Montreal, and dated 1942 and marked as size 32 with a Canadian C-Broadarrow. In very good condition showing wear to the elastic waist band. His flight wear includes his leather his leather flight helmet with all snaps and straps in place and with marked headphones and wiring and plugs in place. Hand applied period added initials "C.J.C." to the front of the cap at the forehead, with no markings to the interior, Interior lining shows expected wear with the exterior leather being in very good condition overall. The leather helmet is with the WW2 Type G RCAF rubber oxygen mask, well marked and complete with all straps and buckles and with cord and plug in for marked microphone to the front of the mask. Although missing the hose, the metal connection clip for the oxygen hose is in place. His Mk.III folding flight goggles are also present that are RCAF marked and dated 1943 to the back of the leather portion of the headband. His leather flight gloves are also present, marked to the interior of the right glove, with both showing heavy wear with broken and missing stitching and damage being present, but they are there. Also part of the grouping is the leather and rubber, zipper front, shearling lined flight boots, with both being marked to the soles, B.F. Goodrich, made in Canada, Both have the functioning and complete zippers to the front and both being in very good condition. The set is also with the medals, comprising of the 1939-1945 Medal, France and Germany Star, CVSM (Canadian Volunteer Service Medal) with overseas clasp, Defence Medal, and 1945 War Medal. Medals are in untouched, uncleaned condition, and were received from the family without ribbons, and modern replacement ribbons have been added. And finally there is an 8 x 10 black white photo, copy of the original that was kept by the family showing Clifford J. Crapper at the time of his wedding, wearing the Service Dress Tunic and Visor Cap. Information has been hand applied to the reverse by a family member. A very complete WW2 RCAF set, acquired directly from a family member, all in original and untouched condition. SKU: 62321
