Pre-WW1 Antique U.S. Model 1879 Trapdoor Springfield Infantry Rifle
Single shot, chambered in 45-70 with a 32 round barrel held in place by 2 barrel bands. Upper sling swivel is stacking for sling attachment, with the 2nd sling swivel being at the trigger guard. Stock shows the inspectors mark to the left side ahead of the wrist. Steel butt plate that is U.S. stamped, with the issue steel cleaning rod in place beneath the American walnut stock. Barrel is proof marked to the left side. Side plate marked U.S. Springfield.
Rifle is in very good condition with traces of case coloring to the trapdoor, and the hammer and side plate showing approx. 60% blue with some turning. Barrel 90% blue with some minor age spotting. The full length stock is in very good condition with only but a few small handling marks present. Shard inspectors mark. Bore is shows sharp rifling with some age darkening and one small area of light corrosion.
