Antique Triplett And Scott Civil War Repeating Carbine, manufactured by the Meriden Manufacturing Company, Meriden Connecticut in 1864-1865 Total quantity estimated at 5000 total. Chambered in 56-50 Spencer rimfire, with a 7 shot magazine tube in the butt of the stock. It has a unique loading action, operated by depressing the latch in the frame located behind the hammer that that allows the barrel to twist in a circular motion to come in line with the magazine that protrudes from the stock. 22 inch round barrel (estimated 2000 produced in this barrel length) with a single front barrel band, and a sling swivel to the underside of the stock. Marked to the tang, "TRIPLET & SCOTT / PATENT DEC. 6, 1864. Also marked to the received "Kentucky", as they were produced to protect Union Army supply lines in Kentucky, with a total order of 5000 for the Kentucky Home Guard Troops, under order of General W.T. Sherman. This carbine shows a large percentage of finish being blued, and starting to turn brown from age, with solid stock and forend with a varnish finish that may have been refinished at some point in history. The bore is very good with predominant and very visible rifling, that shows expected use. The action also retains a large amount of finish with some mottling being present.
